The Commercial Real Estate Development Association in Massachusetts, NAIOP-MA, recently hosted a panel discussion where the developers most responsible for the transformation of Assembly Row, the Seaport, and the Fenway told their development stories. Nearly 300 people attended the event at the Seaport Hotel. The NAIOP-MA description of the presentation points out that these developers would change the landscape and economy in the areas where they work, however as they made as they communicated the events that transpired it quickly became clear that when they started their real estate journeys, they had little clue where they would end up. Steve Samuels, the founder of Samuels & Associates, told the audience that he hoped to go into the Fenway “in a very small way,” to make a single real estate play involving a supermarket Now Samuels & Associates controls 19 Fenway properties that are host to luxury residences, trendy restaurants, new retail, and more than one million square feet of office space that runs the gamut in style from the Art Deco-era Landmark Center to the ultra-modern Van Ness.
